Born Timilehin J. Oni and professionally known as Tim Light, he is a contemporary Nigerian artist based in Ibadan whose paintings explore themes of hope, grace, spiritual renewal and the resilience of the human spirit. His chosen name, Light, reflects the guiding force behind his practice — a symbol of illumination, clarity and the transformative power of faith.
Tim's artistic journey began in childhood, sketching the people and moments around him before creating comic strips that he sold to classmates. What started as a fascination with storytelling has grown into a deeply personal visual language that celebrates humanity's ability to flourish despite hardship.
A graduate of Adeyemi University of Education, where he studied Fine and Applied Arts, Tim has developed a distinctive style that blends contemporary figurative painting with rich symbolism. His luminous figures, accented with vibrant lime green highlights, have become his signature. More than a stylistic choice, the glowing green represents life, renewal and the divine presence within each individual.
As the artist explains: “Just as a tree reveals the life within through its flourishing green leaves, I use lime green to express the thriving spirit of people of colour — newness, strength, vitality and hope. I paint peace. I paint hope. I paint love. We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree.”
Rooted in his Christian faith, Tim's work reflects his belief that divine life is revealed through the way we live, love, endure and grow. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, he creates symbolic narratives woven with water, flowers, butterflies, gardens and moments of human connection. His paintings invite viewers to slow down, reflect and rediscover hope, innocence and the quiet beauty of transformation.
His newest body of work, The Rebirth of Innocence, continues this exploration, offering a moving meditation on healing, grace and the enduring light within us all.
Tim's work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections around the world. Career highlights include participation in Sotheby's African Modern and Contemporary Art Auction in London, along with exhibitions in New York, Baltimore, Lagos and London.
